VarioPro
The new Modular Braille displays
for professional use

We want …
… to support our blind and visually impaired Customers even better at work and in their education.
This is our company's mission and our objective is to fulfill this simple, yet ambitious challenge.
Flatter, smaller, lighter, quicker, more flexible –
these are the key benefits
of the new professional and modular
VarioPro Braille displays.
The VarioPro Braille displays are a true innovation: The navigation rollers ensure ease of use and the two different types of connection (both serial and USB) make the VarioPro highly adaptable; the large selection of convenient supplementary modules provides flexibility and allows individual configuration.
Navigation Rollers
The navigation rollers, which are located on the front of the VarioPro Braille display, enable the user to read without interruption for the very first time, as the reading fingers can remain on the Braille display. The navigation rollers can be simply operated with the thumb and are comparable to the scroll wheel of a computer mouse.
The navigation rollers allow the user to "scroll“ easily and intuitively through texts, pages, paragraphs, sentences or words or through menu structures.
These rollers are featured in several of the optional modules.
Optional Modules
Optional extension modules are available to suit the individual needs of every specialist workplace: e.g. a supplementary module with additional Braille cells for displaying status information, modules for audio processing or for special switchboard / operator console applications.
The modular nature of the VarioPro offers an ease of operation previously unknown to the blind PC user:
The modules and navigation rollers can be individually configured: in the case of audio processing for example, it is possible to customise the navigation rollers in such a way that one navigation roller represents the different soundtracks and the other navigation rollers can be used to carry out sound processing functions.
The Basic Module
The VarioPro Braille displays are highly functional and with their robust design made from anodised aluminium they are extremely stable and hard-wearing. Still VarioPro maintains a very elegant, though professional and streamlined appearance.
Our experience in the development and manufacture of professional Braille displays guarantees a high level of reliability and many years of use.
There are two Basic Modules: VarioPro 80 and VarioPro 64. Both are designed for optional connection to all supplementary modules. The Basic Modules are connected to the PC through USB or serial interface.
Overview of Optional Modules

The supplementary modules can be attached onto the left or right hand side of the basic module to suit the personal requirements
of the User.
A status module with function keys is available as a supplementary module, along with a numerical
block with or without
additional Braille cells.
AUDIODATA Customers will recognize the familiar sliders, a “Speech Module“ will make the operation of electronic speech output even easier: switchboards and operator console systems, call centre software, special applications for physiotherapists, etc., etc. – our product range is tailored to suit the applications and requirements of our Customers!
We put particular emphasis on those Modules which are optimised for operating sound processing programmes. Many Customers are interested in this facility and we offer the ideal solution: compiling CDs or working with audio programmes on the PC, processing MP3 data and similar. Whether you require these features for your work or whether you would simply like to set up your own personal system – we will provide you with the perfect solution!
Screen Readers
VarioPro Braille displays can be operated not only with COBRA, VIRGO4 or BLINDOWS, but also with all other known screen readers.
VIRGO4 and BLINDOWS screen readers and their mutual successor - called COBRA - to be released in the second half of 2007, will support all optional modules in an optimum manner. Our aim is for you to rely less and less on a screen reader and for you to be able carry out your work easily and efficiently using only the VarioPro Braille display – the screen reader should then only be regarded as a support function in this work.
Customers who already use VIRGO4 or BLINDOWS will receive an update for the latest VIRGO4 or BLINDOWS free of charge when a VarioPro Braille display is chosen / supplied. A cross-update to the latest VIRGO4 or BLINDOWS will be available at a very attractive price to Customers who use other screen readers and want to update to VIRGO4 or BLINDOWS! Please ask your BAUM-Distributor !!
Long-term investment security
VarioPro Braille displays have been designed for education and workplace applications. Their modular design provides flexibility and enables them to meet growing demands for the future without the User having to repeatedly make new purchases of equipment. New modules can be developed at any time for specific requirements and this ensures long-term investment security.
Our use of the very latest technologies, together with the extremely robust design, reduces the cause of potential faults and ensures that service work – if at all necessary -
will remain fast and inexpensive.
We are confident that many workplaces will gain from this new concept.
