Solutions for Telephone Switchboard Operators based on COBRA and VIRGO4 screen reader
In the past, many blind and visually impaired people found a job as a telephone operator. Nowadays most operator consoles (switchboards) are special software applications running on PC’s, whereas VoIP also brings new opportunities.
The operator console information that is on the computer screen is read out by BAUM's newest screen reader software COBRA (or VIRGO4) with special scripts and transformed into information in Braille output or speech output for the blind operator. For visually impaired operators BAUM Retec can offer screen magnification solutions. BAUM’s Solutions will not affect the PBX-software or the PBX itself; only the information from the computer screen is used.
Developing workplaces for blind
and visually impaired people
As a result of these new developments, the PC’s themselves also offer blind and visually impaired people additional tasks and more job challenges apart from their job as a telephone operator operating only a switchboard. BAUM Retec enables blind and visually impaired people to work effortlessly with a modern day Windows-based telephone operator workplace including e-mail and internet. We can offer solutions for blind persons as well as visually impaired people; magnification, speech output and Braille output can all implemented in our solutions. In most of our solutions all Windows-applications are accessible.
Localisation, installation, individualising of the work place and hands-on training to the End User (with assistance of our Distributor network where applicable) will guarantee a complete and stable working solution with a strong focus on efficiency and performance.
Know-How and Experience
BAUM Retec has a long standing experience in developing accessibility solutions for workplaces for blind and visually impaired people, in particular for blind and visually impaired telephone operators that are using various types of PBX’s.
