On this page we have summarised some of the most frequently asked questions about MyStick.

 

MyStick does not start automatically

In order to have MyStick starting automatically, within Windows the automatic starting of CD’s must be enabled.

Can I also store some other files on MyStick?

Yes you can; depending on the version of MyStick that you have, there are about 900 MB free. There is sufficient space left to store your own data, other data or programmes.

Are my personal settings stored on MyStick when I pull MyStick out of the PC?

Yes, your personal settings are stored if you close down normally by using the Eject-function on the Launchpad – as written in the manual.

Can you delete MyStick ?

No you can not. Because the MyStick software is stored in a hidden system directory only experienced users can reach these files. In case your MyStick would be defective, please return your MyStick to your local BAUM Distributor or BAUM Retec for repair.

MyStick does not start anymore or reports: "Your demonstration time has finished"

If your MyStick does not start or gives the following error message:

Launchpad error
An error has occurred while initializing U3 Launchpad
Device Connect Error
U3 Launchpad will close now. OK

this can have one of the following reasons:

The Launchpad reports that it can not connect to the U3 stick. Mostly software conflicts with built-in card readers are reason for this (e.g. HP or in Medion-PC’s).

Remedy is to eject the ca rd reader. To do this, please perform the following actions:

Click on the Hardware symbol in the Info-area (Systray) to the right in the Start list;
Select the drive for the card reader;
Click on Eject or De-activate;
Follow the next directions.

By doing this the card reader is de-activated by means of it’s software only for this session. The card reader will be activated and can be used normally after re-booting the PC.

Why does the speech synthesizer not support all programmes ?

A regular screen reader like e.g. VIRGO or Blindows are installing a graphics driver which reads all screen information directly from the source.

MyStick – on the contrary - does not install any software and therefore can only ask those programmes that are shown on your screen. This is done my means of the MSAA-port. This supports only some programmes, especially those from Microsoft. Other programmes which do not support the MSAA-port, cannot be used.

The magnification feature can magnify practically all programmes and therefore experiences no problems with MSAA-port support.

  • Microsoft Outlook (as of Office 2003)
  • Microsoft Active Sync 4.x
  • Windows Media Player (as of version 10)
  • DOS -command (only in Windows XP and Server 2003)
  • Adobe Reader 7 and Acrobat Reader 6 (only the full versions with integrated MSAA-support)
  • Finereader 8.0 Professional
  • AntiVir Personal Edition 7
  • Juice Podcast Loader
  • Cdex
  • Daisy-players
  • Drive Image
  • Internet Explorer 6

Why does it take so long to start MyStick ?

When MyStick is put into a PC the very first time, Windows senses that MyStick was already put into this PC, and will run the device drivers that were used before.

Also when the message „You have to re-start your PC“ appears, this is absolutely NOT necessary for a correct operation of MyStick.

The next times when you put in MyStick on the same PC it will be faster. On some PC’s it might even take up to 4 minutes until a first start of MyStick is ready and the message „MyStick is ready“ can be heard. Please be patient and give MyStick it’s time to start up.

MyStick Manual

You can call the manual by pressingt CapsLock + F1 when MyStick is active. With MyStick you also receive an audio-CD with the manual in spoken format on it.
